GADA Today: How I Work While I Wait for Head the AD Position

In this episode of GADA Today, presented by Northside Hospital,  we feature Ardeana Scott-Yon as she reflects on the qualities and habits she is intentionally developing as she works toward her goal of becoming an Athletic Director. Drawing from her experience in a highly transient school, Ardeana discusses the importance of continuous learning, staying informed on evolving policies, and building systems that help athletic leaders remain proactive rather than reactive.

Interview Highlights Include:

  • Why staying current on GHSA bylaws, legislation, and transfer regulations is essential
  • How strong relationships with registrars, counselors, and school staff help schools better support transient student populations
  • The value of remaining engaged and aware of issues before they become larger problems
  • How a structured, color-coded “power list” system helps prioritize responsibilities and maintain daily accountability
Ardeana also highlights the importance of finding ways to stand out as a leader beyond simply handling day-to-day responsibilities. Through intentional organization, continuous education, and a commitment to staying ahead of challenges, she demonstrates how preparation and attention to detail can become a competitive advantage for future athletic administrators.
